In March 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the third global patient safety challenge under the theme: “Medication Without Harm.” The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) designed the Africa Hospital Patient Safety Initiative across three countries (Ethiopia, Ghana and South Africa) in ten (10) hospitals to develop, test and implement scalable interventions to transform patient safety practices. Ubora Institute serves as the implementing partner of this Initiative in Ghana. As the first patient safety programme of its scope, the two-year programme will attract high visibility with significant anticipation for lessons-learned that can be adapted for application elsewhere. The Ghana Collaborative includes one (1) Government facilities (La General Hospital) and (1) private facility (Nyaho Medical Centre) in the Greater Accra Region as well as two faith-based facilities, St. Luke’s Catholic Hospital in Apam (Central Region) and Methodist Hospital in Ankaase (Ashanti Region).
