The Ministry of Health, Quality Management Unit in a three - day meeting with its agencies has discussed healthcare quality in Ghana. The first two days was the 2nd Quarter National Healthcare Quality Strategy (NHQS) Technical Committee meeting where all agencies of the ministry made a presentation of quality initiatives that has been done in the agencies over the past three months, after the first quarter technical meeting.

The meeting assessed the progress of MoH agencies in the implementation of the NHQS; and to provide further technical support in the use of QI methods and tools to address quality gaps. The third day was a Validation meeting on the Evaluation of Ghana’s Healthcare Quality Strategy.

The National Healthcare Quality Strategy developed in 2016, by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ubora Institute, Ghana and Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), USA has been accepted by all agencies of the MoH and received support for implementation.

Quality teams in these agencies have worked on projects using quality improvement methods and tools to help provide quality services to their clients. In sharing a summary of the evaluation of the NHQS, Prof Yawson and his team provided updates on findings from each of the seven key objectives of strategy, and recommendations for improvement as per the role of the various agencies.

The three-day meeting had a number of agencies: Ghana Health Service (GHS), CHAG, GAQHI, the 4 Teaching hospitals, Health Facility Regulatory Agency (HEFRA), and Food & Drugs Authority (FDA), Mental Health Authority, Pharmacy council, National Ambulance Service, St. John’s Ambulance Service, Centre for Plant Medicine, Allied Health Professionals Council, Coalition of NGOs. Also, in attendance were development partners: WHO, Quality for Health and JICA.
