Job Title: Executive Director & Head of Breast Feeding Competence Centre

Ubora Institute is a Pan African organization incorporated in Ghana as “Ubora Quality Institute”, a company limited
by guarantee under The Companies Code, 1963 (Act 179) with an operational base in Accra.
In addition to the role of executive leadership of Ubora mainstream operations, the Executive Director would be
expected to lead Ubora recently started a new business line - a Breastfeeding Competence Centre (BFCC) - together
with the Family Larsson Rosenquist Foundation, Switzerland that aims to support governments to operationalize
a country’s breastfeeding policy and in a next development step on operational aspects of improving the outcomes
of the first 1000 days. This innovative approach is currently being successfully tested in Ghana “Breastfeeding for
Life” project
Main Responsibilities
Effectively oversee the attainment of the vision, mission and strategy of Ubora Quality Institute. This
shall include but not be limited to the following;
1. Strengthen the Institute to sustainably support the institutionalization of quality improvement
strategy, coordination and programming in Ghana and across the Africa Region. This will among
others, entail providing effective leadership for the development of Ubora Institute into the
foremost Learning Laboratory on Quality Improvement Science through its training and capacity
building program portfolios for improved health outcomes.
2. Establish BFCC business development structure, process and tools, and grow the business
portfolio to cover other areas of the first 1000 days movement like Multi-Micronutrient
Supplementation, Nutrition, complementary feeding and ante- as well as post-natal care across
sub-Saharan Africa while linking, optimizing the operations and performance of the Institute’s
mainstream business development operations.
3. Oversee compliance on all fronts of the Institute’s and BFCC operations i.e. HR, grant
management, statutory, finance and tax, and align the Institute’s policies and guidelines with
best corporate governance practices and as and when required, revise and propose updates for
Board approval.
4. Executive leadership: Oversee management and coordination among the various country
projects including BFCC business portfolio, develop and manage program teams, technical
assistance needs required to achieve the expected outputs, develop suitable scopes of work and
liaise with the key faculty and external advisors to obtain technical input into the design and
implementation of the project.
5. After seven years of its existence, lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive
business plan to advance Ubora’s next phase of growth. Areas of interests are in Healthcare
Quality & Safety Programming, Breast Feeding Competence, Education, Assessments &
Accreditation, ultimately conceptualized as distinct business lines.
6. Project design: Hold responsibility for project design, development and timely achievement of all
milestones, deliverables, financial accountability and other reporting requirements and ensure
that program structures and elements for integration and sustainability of achievements.
7. Budgeting, finance and reporting: Lead manage both Ubora mainstream and BFCC budgets and
finances, including the coordination between partners and ensure timely financial reporting
between Ubora and the Board, all funders and other stakeholders e.g. Social Welfare
Department, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Registrar General’s Department in accordance with
agreed upon formats, contents, and timing.
8. Business networking and stakeholder relationship management: Lead engagements with
government/MoH to achieve buy-in for the implementation phase of the “Breastfeeding for Life”
Project and regularly communicate with senior leaders and managers of partner organizations
proactively and liaise with BFCCs of FLRF in other regions.
9. Work planning and implementation: Produce comprehensive, integrated work plans based on
BFCC projects and BFL by working with team and stakeholders like WHO and UNICEF and other
partners working to ensure reliable breastfeeding practices. On the wider Ubora programs,
ensure the implementation, management, monitoring, and adaptations of work activity. Proceed
to align all manpower and financial resources geared at attainment of objectives.
Your profile
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, economics, public health, social sciences.
Master’s/advanced degree in a relevant discipline, e.g., business administration, economics,
public health, life sciences.
Several years of operational business development and/or leadership experience in an
organisation in the pharma and/or public health space.
Advanced certification in Quality improvement science, project management etc.
Ability to work and continuously engage with multi-disciplinary high profile Board Directors
Entrepreneurial mindset, motivated, self-driven, accountable, flexible, able to think creatively.
You enjoy the tasks that help move the BFCC forward. You also enjoy inspiring the team as well
as placing the BFCC on the map with relevant authorities A proven track record to be able to
independently build up topics, teams composing staff and consultants, or units towards break
even.
Financial management and analytic skills including but not limited to; project costing, cash flow
generation and analysis, interpretation of financial statements, bank reconciliations etc.
Experience in leading engagements with government officials and representatives from supragovernmental organisations including funders, NGOs and Multinational companies.
Experience as working as consultant with international experience in Africa
Working knowledge/interest to familiarize yourself with the subject of breastfeeding and
breastmilk and mother and child health during the first 1000 days.
You have over 10 years of extensive technical and supervisory experience in some of core global
health programing – RH, MNCH, Malaria, TB/HIV, Mental Health, NTDs, NCDs
Great interpersonal skills necessary to boost team morale and lead by example
Excellent spoken and written knowledge of English, working knowledge of French is an
advantage.
