Striving to achieve better healthcare outcomes and foster a healthier future for Sierra Leone, the MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership - Sierra Leone (MCGL-SL) team at the Ubora Institute have had an insightful discussion with the Programme Manager of Quality Management Unit (QMU) of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS), Sierra Leone, Matron Margaret Mannah on Care Initiatives and Data Management.
The main objective of the meeting was to review the development of Quality of Care (QoC) Change Package aimed to accelerate healthcare in Sierra Leone, which is currently been worked on by MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) – Ubora Institute, Save the Children and the Quality Management Unit of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Sierra Leone.
The meeting served as a knowledge-sharing platform, where Matron Margaret Mannah was introduced to the Change Package concept and its methodology. Additionally, the team discussed the use of data for informed decision-making in Sierra Leone.
Justina Agula during the meeting provided a comprehensive overview of the Change Package, emphasizing its objectives and significance. Dr. Eric Adjei Boadu followed up with a detailed presentation on the definition of the Change Package and the associated scoring criteria. The team further explored the data collection process by Quality Improvement (QI) teams, focusing on the description of the "HOW" changes were tested.
Team member Frank Faarkuu then introduced Matron Mannah to the data collection tools – trackers, which play a vital role in capturing essential information for the development of the Change Package. He also demonstrated how the scoring is done using a sample facility, showcasing how successful change ideas are included in the Change Package.
The meeting with Matron Margaret Mannah, QMU of MoHS at the Ubora Institute Office was very successful. Matron Mannah was enthusiastic about the knowledge she acquired and committed to sharing it with the Technical Working Group of the MoHS. The insightful discussions and valuable recommendations reflect a collective commitment to improving QoC and promoting data-driven decision-making by MCGL and MoHS.
